The poet sings of love and devotion.

 The song of songs, which is Solomon’s.

 Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love isbetter than wine.

 Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is asointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee.

 Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.

 am black, but comely, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar, as the curtains of Solomon.

 Look not upon me, because I am black, because the sun hath looked upon me: my mother’s children were angry with me; they made me the keeper of the vineyards; but mine own vineyard have I not kept.

 Tell me, O thou whom my soul loveth, where thou feedest, where thou makest thy flock to rest at noon: for why should I be as one that turneth aside by the flocks of thy companions?

 ¶If thou know not, O thou fairest among women, go thy way forth by the footsteps of the flock, and feed thy kids beside the shepherds’ tents.

 I have compared thee, O my love, to a company of horses in Pharaoh’s chariots.

 10 Thy cheeks are comely with rows of jewels, thy neck with chains of gold.

 11 We will make thee borders of gold with studs of silver.

 12 ¶While the king sitteth at his table, my spikenard sendeth forth the smell thereof.

 13 A bundle of myrrh is my wellbeloved unto me; he shall lie all night betwixt my breasts.

 14 My beloved is unto me as a cluster of camphire in the vineyards of En-gedi.

 15 Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; thou hastdoves’ eyes.

 16 Behold, thou art fair, my beloved, yea, pleasant: also our bedis green.

 17 The beams of our house are cedar, and our rafters of fir.

Chapter 2

Beloved ones are praised and described.

 am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleys.

 As the lily among thorns, so is my love among the daughters.

 As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.

 He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love.

 Stay me with flagons, comfort me with apples: for I am sick of love.

 His left hand is under my head, and his right hand doth embrace me.

 I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please.

 ¶The voice of my beloved! behold, he cometh leaping upon the mountains, skipping upon the hills.

 My beloved is like a roe or a young hart: behold, he standeth behind our wall, he looketh forth at the windows, shewing himself through the lattice.

 10 My beloved spake, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.

 11 For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone;

 12 The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land;

 13 The fig tree putteth forth her green figs, and the vines withthe tender grape give a good smell. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.

 14 ¶O my dove, that art in the clefts of the rock, in the secretplaces of the stairs, let me see thy countenance, let me hear thy voice; for sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is comely.

 15 Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes.

 16 ¶My beloved is mine, and I am his: he feedeth among the lilies.

 17 Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, turn, my beloved, and be thou like a roe or a young hart upon the mountains of Bether.

Chapter 3

A love song concerning Solomon is presented.

 By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.

 I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.

 The watchmen that go about the city found me: to whom I said,Saw ye him whom my soul loveth?

 It was but a little that I passed from them, but I found him whom my soul loveth: I held him, and would not let him go, until I had brought him into my mother’s house, and into the chamber of her that conceived me.

 I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please.

 ¶Who is this that cometh out of the wilderness like pillars of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, with all powders of the merchant?

 Behold his bed, which is Solomon’s; threescore valiant men areabout it, of the valiant of Israel.

 They all hold swords, being expert in war: every man hath his sword upon his thigh because of fear in the night.

 King Solomon made himself a chariot of the wood of Lebanon.

 10 He made the pillars thereof of silver, the bottom thereof ofgold, the covering of it of purple, the midst thereof being pavedwith love, for the daughters of Jerusalem.

 11 Go forth, O ye daughters of Zion, and behold king Solomon with the crown wherewith his mother crowned him in the day of his espousals, and in the day of the gladness of his heart.

Chapter 4

A song describes the beauty of the poet’s beloved.

 Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; thou hastdoves’ eyes within thy locks: thy hair is as a flock of goats, that appear from mount Gilead.

 Thy teeth are like a flock of sheep that are even shorn, which came up from the washing; whereof every one bear twins, and none is barren among them.

 Thy lips are like a thread of scarlet, and thy speech is comely: thy temples are like a piece of a pomegranate within thy locks.

 Thy neck is like the tower of David builded for an armoury, whereon there hang a thousand bucklers, all shields of mighty men.

 Thy two breasts are like two young roes that are twins, which feed among the lilies.

 Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, I will get me to the mountain of myrrh, and to the hill of frankincense.

 Thou art all fair, my love; there is no spot in thee.

 ¶Come with me from Lebanon, my spouse, with me from Lebanon: look from the top of Amana, from the top of Shenir and Hermon, from the lions’ dens, from the mountains of the leopards.

 Thou hast ravished my heart, my sister, my spouse; thou hast ravished my heart with one of thine eyes, with one chain of thy neck.

 10 How fair is thy love, my sister, my spouse! how much better is thy love than wine! and the smell of thine ointments than all spices!

 11 Thy lips, O my spouse, drop as the honeycomb: honey and milk are under thy tongue; and the smell of thy garments is like the smell of Lebanon.

 12 A garden inclosed is my sister, my spouse; a spring shut up, a fountain sealed.

 13 Thy plants are an orchard of pomegranates, with pleasant fruits; camphire, with spikenard,

 14 Spikenard and saffron; calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense; myrrh and aloes, with all the chief spices:

 15 A fountain of gardens, a well of living waters, and streams from Lebanon.

 16 ¶Awake, O north wind; and come, thou south; blow upon my garden, that the spices thereof may flow out. Let my beloved come into his garden, and eat his pleasant fruits.

Chapter 5

The song of love and affection continues.

 I am come into my garden, my sister, my spouse: I have gathered my myrrh with my spice; I have eaten my honeycomb with my honey; I have drunk my wine with my milk: eat, O friends; drink, yea, drink abundantly, O beloved.

 ¶I sleep, but my heart waketh: it is the voice of my beloved that knocketh, saying, Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled: for my head is filled with dew, and my locks with the drops of the night.

 I have put off my coat; how shall I put it on? I have washed my feet; how shall I defile them?

 My beloved put in his hand by the hole of the door, and my bowels were moved for him.

 I rose up to open to my beloved; and my hands dropped withmyrrh, and my fingers with sweet smelling myrrh, upon the handles of the lock.

 I opened to my beloved; but my beloved had withdrawn himself, and was gone: my soul failed when he spake: I sought him, but I could not find him; I called him, but he gave me no answer.

 The watchmen that went about the city found me, they smote me, they wounded me; the keepers of the walls took away my veil from me.

 I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, if ye find my beloved, that ye tell him, that I am sick of love.

 ¶What is thy beloved more than another beloved, O thou fairest among women? what is thy beloved more than anotherbeloved, that thou dost so charge us?

 10 My beloved is white and ruddy, the chiefest among ten thousand.

 11 His head is as the most fine gold, his locks are bushy, andblack as a raven.

 12 His eyes are as the eyes of doves by the rivers of waters, washed with milk, and fitly set.

 13 His cheeks are as a bed of spices, as sweet flowers: his lipslike lilies, dropping sweet smelling myrrh.

 14 His hands are as gold rings set with the beryl: his belly is asbright ivory overlaid with sapphires.

 15 His legs are as pillars of marble, set upon sockets of fine gold: his countenance is as Lebanon, excellent as the cedars.

 16 His mouth is most sweet: yea, he is altogether lovely. This ismy beloved, and this is my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem.

Chapter 6

The song of love continues.

 Whither is thy beloved gone, O thou fairest among women? whither is thy beloved turned aside? that we may seek him with thee.

 My beloved is gone down into his garden, to the beds of spices, to feed in the gardens, and to gather lilies.

 am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine: he feedeth among the lilies.

 ¶Thou art beautiful, O my love, as Tirzah, comely as Jerusalem, terrible as an army with banners.

 Turn away thine eyes from me, for they have overcome me: thy hair is as a flock of goats that appear from Gilead.

 Thy teeth are as a flock of sheep which go up from the washing, whereof every one beareth twins, and there is not one barren among them.

 As a piece of a pomegranate are thy temples within thy locks.

 There are threescore queens, and fourscore concubines, and virgins without number.

 My dove, my undefiled is but one; she is the only one of her mother, she is the choice one of her that bare her. The daughters saw her, and blessed her; yea, the queens and the concubines, and they praised her.

 10 ¶Who is she that looketh forth as the morning, fair as the moon, clear as the sun, and terrible as an army with banners?

 11 I went down into the garden of nuts to see the fruits of the valley, and to see whether the vine flourished, and the pomegranates budded.

 12 Or ever I was aware, my soul made me like the chariots of Amminadib.

 13 Return, return, O Shulamite; return, return, that we may look upon thee. What will ye see in the Shulamite? As it were the company of two armies.

Chapter 7

The song of love continues.

 How beautiful are thy feet with shoes, O prince’s daughter! the joints of thy thighs are like jewels, the work of the hands of a cunning workman.

 Thy navel is like a round goblet, which wanteth not liquor: thy belly is like an heap of wheat set about with lilies.

 Thy two breasts are like two young roes that are twins.

 Thy neck is as a tower of ivory; thine eyes like the fishpools in Heshbon, by the gate of Bath-rabbim: thy nose is as the tower of Lebanon which looketh toward Damascus.

 Thine head upon thee is like Carmel, and the hair of thine head like purple; the king is held in the galleries.

 How fair and how pleasant art thou, O love, for delights!

 This thy stature is like to a palm tree, and thy breasts to clusters of grapes.

 I said, I will go up to the palm tree, I will take hold of the boughs thereof: now also thy breasts shall be as clusters of the vine, and the smell of thy nose like apples;

 And the roof of thy mouth like the best wine for my beloved, that goeth down sweetly, causing the lips of those that are asleep to speak.

 10 ¶I am my beloved’s, and his desire is toward me.

 11 Come, my beloved, let us go forth into the field; let us lodge in the villages.

 12 Let us get up early to the vineyards; let us see if the vine flourish, whether the tender grape appear, and the pomegranates bud forth: there will I give thee my loves.

 13 The mandrakes give a smell, and at our gates are all manner of pleasant fruits, new and old, which I have laid up for thee, O my beloved.

Chapter 8

Many waters cannot quench love.

 O that thou wert as my brother, that sucked the breasts of my mother! when I should find thee without, I would kiss thee; yea, I should not be despised.

 I would lead thee, and bring thee into my mother’s house, whowould instruct me: I would cause thee to drink of spiced wine of the juice of my pomegranate.

 His left hand should be under my head, and his right hand should embrace me.

 I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, until he please.

 Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness, leaning upon her beloved? I raised thee up under the apple tree: there thy mother brought thee forth: there she brought thee forth that bare thee.

 ¶Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.

 Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.

 ¶We have a little sister, and she hath no breasts: what shall we do for our sister in the day when she shall be spoken for?

 If she be a wall, we will build upon her a palace of silver: and if she be a door, we will inclose her with boards of cedar.

 10 am a wall, and my breasts like towers: then was I in his eyes as one that found favour.

 11 Solomon had a vineyard at Baal-hamon; he let out the vineyard unto keepers; every one for the fruit thereof was to bring a thousand pieces of silver.

 12 My vineyard, which is mine, is before me: thou, O Solomon,must have a thousand, and those that keep the fruit thereof two hundred.

 13 Thou that dwellest in the gardens, the companions hearken to thy voice: cause me to hear it.

 14 ¶Make haste, my beloved, and be thou like to a roe or to a young hart upon the mountains of spices.

Chapter 1

Peter urges the Saints to make their calling and election sure—Prophecy comes by the power of the Holy Ghost.

 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through therighteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:

 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledgeof God, and of Jesus our Lord,

 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things thatpertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and preciouspromises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divinenature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;

 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;

 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindnesscharity.

 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

 10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall neverfall:

 11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

 12 Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.

 13 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;

 14 Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.

 15 Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.

 16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

 17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

 18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.

 19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

 20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Chapter 2

False teachers among the Saints are damned—Lustful Saints will perish in their own corruption.

 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast themdown to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighthperson, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensampleunto those that after should live ungodly;

 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:

 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with theirunlawful deeds;)

 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

 10 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust ofuncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they,selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.

 11 Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord.

 12 But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;

 13 And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;

 14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:

 15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved thewages of unrighteousness;

 16 But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man’s voice forbad the madness of the prophet.

 17 These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.

 18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, theyallure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.

 19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are theservants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.

 20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end isworse with them than the beginning.

 21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way ofrighteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.

 22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that waswashed to her wallowing in the mire.

Chapter 3

Some in the latter days will doubt the Second Coming—The elements will melt at the coming of the Lord.

 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in bothwhich I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:

 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:

 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last daysscoffers, walking after their own lusts,

 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed withwater, perished:

 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day iswith the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

 10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and theelements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

 11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, whatmanner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

 12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

 13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for newheavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

 14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, bediligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

 15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;

 16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the otherscriptures, unto their own destruction.

 17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own steadfastness.

 18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

The Words of Mormon

Chapter 1

Mormon abridges the large plates of Nephi—He puts the small plates with the other plates—King Benjamin establishes peace in the land. AboutA.D. 385.

 And now I, Mormon, being about to deliver up the recordwhich I have been making into the hands of my son Moroni, behold I have witnessed almost all the destruction of my people, the Nephites.

 And it is many hundred years after the coming of Christ that I deliver these records into the hands of my son; and it supposeth me that he will witness the entire destruction of my people. But may God grant that he may survive them, that he may write somewhat concerning them, and somewhat concerning Christ, that perhaps some day it may profit them.

 And now, I speak somewhat concerning that which I have written; for after I had made an abridgment from the plates of Nephi, down to the reign of this king Benjamin, of whom Amaleki spake, I searched among the records which had been delivered into my hands, and I found these plates, which contained this small account of the prophets, from Jacob down to the reign of this king Benjamin, and also many of the words of Nephi.

 And the things which are upon these plates pleasing me, because of the prophecies of the coming of Christ; and my fathers knowing that many of them have been fulfilled; yea, and I also know that as many things as have been prophesied concerning us down to this day have been fulfilled, and as many as go beyond this day must surely come to pass—

 Wherefore, I chose these things, to finish my record upon them, which remainder of my record I shall take from the plates of Nephi; and I cannot write the hundredth part of the things of my people.

 But behold, I shall take these plates, which contain these prophesyings and revelations, and put them with the remainder of my record, for they are choice unto me; and I know they will be choice unto my brethren.

 And I do this for a wise purpose; for thus it whispereth me, according to the workings of the Spirit of the Lord which is in me. And now, I do not know all things; but the Lord knoweth all things which are to come; wherefore, he worketh in me to do according to his will.

 And my prayer to God is concerning my brethren, that they may once again come to the knowledge of God, yea, the redemption of Christ; that they may once again be a delightsomepeople.

 And now I, Mormon, proceed to finish out my record, which I take from the plates of Nephi; and I make it according to the knowledge and the understanding which God has given me.

 10 Wherefore, it came to pass that after Amaleki had delivered up these plates into the hands of king Benjamin, he took them and put them with the other plates, which contained records which had been handed down by the kings, from generation to generation until the days of king Benjamin.

 11 And they were handed down from king Benjamin, from generation to generation until they have fallen into my hands. And I, Mormon, pray to God that they may be preserved from this time henceforth. And I know that they will be preserved; for there are great things written upon them, out of which my people and their brethren shall be judged at the great and last day, according to the word of God which is written.

 12 And now, concerning this king Benjamin—he had somewhat of contentions among his own people.

 13 And it came to pass also that the armies of the Lamanites came down out of the land of Nephi, to battle against his people. But behold, king Benjamin gathered together his armies, and he did stand against them; and he did fight with the strength of his own arm, with the sword of Laban.

 14 And in the strength of the Lord they did contend against their enemies, until they had slain many thousands of the Lamanites. And it came to pass that they did contend against the Lamanites until they had driven them out of all the lands of theirinheritance.

 15 And it came to pass that after there had been false Christs, and their mouths had been shut, and they punished according to their crimes;

 16 And after there had been false prophets, and false preachers and teachers among the people, and all these having been punished according to their crimes; and after there having been much contention and many dissensions away unto the Lamanites, behold, it came to pass that king Benjamin, with the assistance of the holy prophets who were among his people—

 17 For behold, king Benjamin was a holy man, and he did reign over his people in righteousness; and there were many holy men in the land, and they did speak the word of God with power and with authority; and they did use much sharpness because of the stiffneckedness of the people—

 18 Wherefore, with the help of these, king Benjamin, by laboring with all the might of his body and the faculty of his whole soul, and also the prophets, did once more establish peace in the land.

Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Manchester, New York, April 16, 1830. This revelation was given to the Church in consequence of some who had previously been baptized desiring to unite with the Church without rebaptism.

An extract from the translation of the Bible as revealed to Joseph Smith the Prophet in 1831: Matthew 23:39 and chapter 24.

Chapter 1

Jesus foretells the impending destruction of Jerusalem—He also discourses on the Second Coming of the Son of Man, and the destruction of the wicked.

 For I say unto you, that ye shall not see me henceforth and know that I am he of whom it is written by the prophets, until ye shall say: Blessed is he who cometh in the name of the Lord, in the clouds of heaven, and all the holy angels with him. Then understood his disciples that he should come again on the earth, after that he was glorified and crowned on the right hand of God.

 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple; and his disciples came to him, for to hear him, saying: Master, show us concerning the buildings of the temple, as thou hast said—They shall be thrown down, and left unto you desolate.

 And Jesus said unto them: See ye not all these things, and do ye not understand them? Verily I say unto you, there shall not be left here, upon this temple, one stone upon another that shall not be thrown down.

 And Jesus left them, and went upon the Mount of Olives. And as he sat upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying: Tell us when shall these things be which thou hast said concerning the destruction of the temple, and the Jews; and what is the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world, or the destruction of the wicked, which is the end of the world?

 And Jesus answered, and said unto them: Take heed that no man deceive you;

 For many shall come in my name, saying—I am Christ—and shall deceive many;

 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you, and ye shall be hated of all nations, for my name’s sake;

 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another;

 And many false prophets shall arise, and shall deceive many;

 10 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold;

 11 But he that remaineth steadfast and is not overcome, the same shall be saved.

 12 When you, therefore, shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, concerning the destruction ofJerusalem, then you shall stand in the holy place; whoso readeth let him understand.

 13 Then let them who are in Judea flee into the mountains;

 14 Let him who is on the housetop flee, and not return to take anything out of his house;

 15 Neither let him who is in the field return back to take his clothes;

 16 And wo unto them that are with child, and unto them that give suck in those days;

 17 Therefore, pray ye the Lord that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the Sabbath day;

 18 For then, in those days, shall be great tribulation on the Jews, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, such as was not before sent upon Israel, of God, since the beginning of their kingdom until this time; no, nor ever shall be sent again upon Israel.

 19 All things which have befallen them are only the beginning of the sorrows which shall come upon them.

 20 And except those days should be shortened, there should none of their flesh be saved; but for the elect’s sake, according to the covenant, those days shall be shortened.

 21 Behold, these things I have spoken unto you concerning the Jews; and again, after the tribulation of those days which shall come upon Jerusalem, if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there, believe him not;

 22 For in those days there shall also arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders, insomuch, that, if possible, they shall deceive the very elect, who are the elect according to the covenant.

 23 Behold, I speak these things unto you for the elect’s sake; and you also shall hear of wars, and rumors of wars; see that ye be not troubled, for all I have told you must come to pass; but the end is not yet.

 24 Behold, I have told you before;

 25 Wherefore, if they shall say unto you: Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: Behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not;

 26 For as the light of the morning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west, and covereth the whole earth, so shall also the coming of the Son of Man be.

 27 And now I show unto you a parable. Behold, wheresoever thecarcass is, there will the eagles be gathered together; so likewise shall mine elect be gathered from the four quarters of the earth.

 28 And they shall hear of wars, and rumors of wars.

 29 Behold I speak for mine elect’s sake; for nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there shall befamines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

 30 And again, because iniquity shall abound, the love of men shall wax cold; but he that shall not be overcome, the same shall be saved.

 31 And again, this Gospel of the Kingdom shall be preached in all the world, for a witness unto all nations, and then shall the end come, or the destruction of the wicked;

 32 And again shall the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, be fulfilled.

 33 And immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sunshall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and thestars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

 34 Verily, I say unto you, this generation, in which these things shall be shown forth, shall not pass away until all I have told you shall be fulfilled.

 35 Although, the days will come, that heaven and earth shall pass away; yet my words shall not pass away, but all shall be fulfilled.

 36 And, as I said before, after the tribulation of those days, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken, then shall appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven, and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn; and they shall see the Son of Man coming in the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory;

 37 And whoso treasureth up my word, shall not be deceived, for the Son of Man shall come, and he shall send his angels before him with the great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together the remainder of his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

 38 Now learn a parable of the fig tree—When its branches are yet tender, and it begins to put forth leaves, you know that summer is nigh at hand;

 39 So likewise, mine elect, when they shall see all these things, they shall know that he is near, even at the doors;

 40 But of that day, and hour, no one knoweth; no, not the angels of God in heaven, but my Father only.

 41 But as it was in the days of Noah, so it shall be also at the coming of the Son of Man;

 42 For it shall be with them, as it was in the days which were before the flood; for until the day that Noah entered into the ark they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage;

 43 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of Man be.

 44 Then shall be fulfilled that which is written, that in the last days, two shall be in the field, the one shall be taken, and the other left;

 45 Two shall be grinding at the mill, the one shall be taken, and the other left;

 46 And what I say unto one, I say unto all men; watch, therefore, for you know not at what hour your Lord doth come.

 47 But know this, if the good man of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to have been broken up, but would have been ready.

 48 Therefore be ye also ready, for in such an hour as ye think not, the Son of Man cometh.

 49 Who, then, is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?

 50 Blessed is that servant whom his lord, when he cometh, shall find so doing; and verily I say unto you, he shall make him ruler over all his goods.

 51 But if that evil servant shall say in his heart: My lord delayethhis coming,

 52 And shall begin to smite his fellow-servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken,

 53 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,

 54 And shall cut him asunder, and shall appoint him his portion with the hypocrites; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

 55 And thus cometh the end of the wicked, according to the prophecy of Moses, saying: They shall be cut off from among the people; but the end of the earth is not yet, but by and by.

1, Baptism is a new and everlasting covenant; 2–4, Authoritative baptism is required.

 Behold, I say unto you that all old covenants have I caused to be done away in this thing; and this is a new and an everlastingcovenant, even that which was from the beginning.

 Wherefore, although a man should be baptized an hundred times it availeth him nothing, for you cannot enter in at the strait gate by the law of Moses, neither by your dead works.

 For it is because of your dead works that I have caused this last covenant and this church to be built up unto me, even as in days of old.

 Wherefore, enter ye in at the gate, as I have commanded, andseek not to counsel your God. Amen.
