Natural Mind Meditation
The practice for awakening natural mind is extraordinarily simple. It is the most human form and experience you can have, and anyone can do it. You just have to sit still, with spine erect, seated on a chair with feet firmly on the floor or on a cushion or pillow with legs folded over each other in lotus or half lotus posture. Your eyes should be slightly opened looking toward the floor. You may place your hands comfortably on your knees, palms down, or place your right hand on your left hand, palms up, held at the level of your navel. Feel your intrinsic dignity in this posture.
Holding the spine erect is already waking up and staying awake. Now in this position, you have nothing to do but watch your breath. Breathe normally. As you become aware of your thoughts just label them “thinking”, and as you exhale, dissolve the thoughts. It matters not the least the nature or content of the thoughts, just dissolve them. At that very moment just as the thought is dissolved lies the “GAP” between the thoughts. It is this GAP you want to become familiar with and cultivate. It is the seed of natural mind and the key to your true, authentic self.
Practice this for at least 15 minutes per day and note the subtle shifts in your perceptions and attitudes. Mind the GAP!

Whole Earth Meditation
Visualize yourself right where you are. Notice the space that you are in, whether it be inside or outside. Now lift out of the environment you find yourself in and look down on it from above. Lift out further and see the entire street or area that you are in. Now expand out and lift higher and higher into space. From space, view the Earth as a single luminous blue mandala. See the Earth from all angles. See it as a planetary orb, a wheel spinning in space with an essential value, its dharma or truth. The dharma or capacity of Earth is its capacity to sustain life.
Visualize the whole of life on Earth, from the animals, to the plants, to the humans down onto the insects and plankton. See it all as one whole system. The whole of the life on the Earth is the biosphere, or the sphere of life that covers the surface of the Earth like a film or vibrant mantle that is ever in motion. Really visualize how all of the different life forms and processes are one unity on this shining blue orb.
Now let your mind penetrate beneath the surface of the Earth. Feel the spherical layers of sediment and crystalline rock. Go to the core and find the massive iron crystal octahedron. Feel this crystal core as a dynamic radio receiver elongated in the direction of each of its magnetic poles. Place yourself in meditation at the very center of that crystal radio receiver. Who is the Earth receiving? What is the Earth broadcasting? Where is the Earth receiving? What messages is Earth giving you right now?

Chapter 5 • Synchrogalactic Yoga II: the Practices
Day Four: KALI
Level 1: Meditating the Svadhisthana (Secret Center) Chakra
Sit in a comfortable meditative posture. Keep your spine erect and body relaxed. With the body
completely still, practice a few moments of natural mind meditation. Once the mind is sufficiently
clear, direct your attention to your secret center or Svadhisthana chakra. Make it as clear and pristine
as possible, glistening and sparkling with vibrant energy. When it is pure and translucent, pulsing at
your secret center, allow it to dissolve and transform itself into an orange six-petalled lotus.
Concentrate on this area inside of your secret center chakra. This is the seat of sexual awareness and
holds a supremely powerful energy. This is also the seat of body consciousness.
In yogic tradition, the Svadhisthana is known as the substratum or basis of individual human
consciousness. It is the container of all karmas, impressions, past lives and previous experience,
or the unconscious, as it pertains specifically to the formation of the earthly personality or
circumstantial persona.
This chakra is governed by the feminine principle or Shakti Goddess Rakini (Sexuality). This
is the place that stores the most psychic blockages and karma—the collective karma of the
unconscious. We want to awaken the secret center in order to open our inner vision to the
receptivity of cosmic electricity.
When this center is finally awakened the body becomes flooded with cosmic electricity that connects
all other chakras. This is the area to transmute and re-channel the powerful sexual, or kundalini
energy into a higher form of electricity. The energy stored in this chakra can be used to vitalize the
different levels of being.
Svadhisthana affirmation: May the supramental forces gather their electroplasmic structures of spiritual
evolution and release them into the noosphere!Day Four: KALI
Level 1: Meditating the Svadhisthana (Secret Center) Chakra

Book of the Transcendence • Cosmic History Chronicles • Volume VI
Level 2: Activating Radial Plasma: Kali
Breathe deeply through your nostrils and allow your awareness to flow up your nose and down into
your secret center chakra. Bring your awareness to the inner Kali plasma at the center of the chakra.
Visualize the blue symbol radiating streams of white light.
Feel the Kali plasma gathering in the secret center, accounting for the quality of intensified light
heat, which is also associated with the sexual, or kundalini energy.
Repeat the following while focusing on your secret center: “My name is the glorious lotus-born, I
catalyze the light-heat within.” Feel within yourself this light-heat, the self-generated electricity that
arises from a condition of immaculate purity.
Cover your left nostril with your left thumb and breathe deeply three times in and out through
your right nostril. Flash onto the Kali plasma and feel the intensified light-heat emanating out of
the secret center chakra. Now cover your right nostril with your right thumb and repeat the three
breaths. Focus on the Kali plasma and feel this intrinsic light-heat awareness pulsing from your secret
center chakra into your entire being. Feel the flowing streams of light and heat catalyzing your entire
system into ever more subtle spirals of radiance. This powerful energy emanates from your secret
center chakra, activating, circulating and invigorating all other chakras. You are the glorious lotus-
born, born from Father Heat and Mother Light.
Kali plasma is the link between the three light-heat sensory plasmas and the three telepathic
plasmas. It is the catalytic agent between the thermic/luminic sensory quantum and the
subatomic telepathic quantum.
Chapter 5 • Synchrogalactic Yoga II: the Practices
Level 3: Engaging the Fourth Mental Sphere (Continuing Conscious)
Higher mind control activates fourth mental sphere.
Visualize the fourth mental sphere (continuing conscious) located in the brain above the left eye in
the left cerebral hemisphere. This mental sphere controls and governs the rear left hemisphere.
Continuing consciousness is the ability to maintain a conscious thoughtform in succession over a
long, unbroken period of time. In terms of Cosmic Science, continuing consciousness is the ability of
the 4-D “Other” to maintain direct communication with the 5-D “Higher Self” and to continue to
establish and extend realization of the whole to the 3-D “self”.
This sphere corresponds to the second time dimension: Cosmic ascension. Cosmic ascension refers
to the mastery of higher powers of telepathic perception and projection. This means we can perceive
ourselves anywhere in the universe and project to those places as necessary.
To cultivate continuing consciousness choose a thought, mental structure or series of numbers to focus
on. You might also practice maintaining projective geometries, like an icosahedron or dodecahedron.
Concentrate and fill your mind entirely with this inner perception or mental construct—keep it
filled with this thought. The moment that any other thought tries to enter the mind displace it
immediately with the thought-construct upon which you are concentrating.
Continue until you acquire the skill of being able to concentrate on anything for as long as you wish,
or until it appears before you in hallucinatory clarity. Persistent training in control of your thought-
world prepares you for supermental descent of consciousness. Analyze every thought that arises. If a
thought is not constructive or harmonious, let it go immediately. Do this as often as necessary until
it becomes second nature. When you attain this capacity you will experience higher mind control:
you are no longer the doer or the thinker, but the higher self has intervened.
Book of the Transcendence • Cosmic History Chronicles • Volume VI
Level 4: Opening the Fourth Heptad Gate (315)
Visualize the orange six-petaled lotus Svadhisthana chakra with the blue Kali
plasma superimposed over it at your sacral area. Hold this visualization and feel
the two intermingle as you chant the sacred letter HRIM as long as your breath
can sustain it.
Locate Heptad Gate 315 and the Beta-Alpha symbol on the 441 holomind perceiver. Its matrix
location is V11:H17, fifth circuit, 8th time dimension, vertical time cosmic command ascending. Now
locate it in your body at the top of your forehead, just above the third eye (see graphic at the end of
this chapter).
Visualize the Beta-Alpha hyperplasma above the blue Kali in your secret center chakra. Take
the Beta-Alpha into the fourth mental sphere in the second time dimension (cosmic ascension)
where it activates continuing conscious as higher mind control. Here is the intergalactic channel
(BMU 331) through which the Beta-Alpha hyperplasma is secreted into the rear left hemisphere of
the brain.
From the fourth mental sphere, mentally direct the Beta-Alpha hyperplasma to the secret center
chakra and impress it above the Kali seal. Hold this with four alternate nostril breaths (four times in
and out through each nostril), followed by one breath through both nostrils.
Ascend up the central column (spine), secreting this Beta-Alpha hyperplasma into all 144,000
etheric fibers of the astral body. Practice the breath of fire, rapid shallow breathing through the
nose, transmuting any blockages or obscurations into streams of crystal clear higher mind control
spreading through your entire nervous system.
Spectral, electric blue and red Beta-Alpha vibrates subtle activating force into all etheric fibers.
Descend back down central channel and leave Kali at the secret center chakra. Ascend back up
central channel and return your consciousness to the fourth mental sphere, then close and seal the
Heptad Gate at the top front of your skull. Relax and breathe slowly and deeply at least 13 times.
Harmonic UR rune 95: Galactic Art Whole Becomes Meditation of Reality.
For additional practice: Locate Heptad Gate 315 on the Hunab Ku 21. Note that it corresponds to
the Prophet, the Renewer of Culture, World Teacher; S/P Mars, Bode Number 16. Study all of the
connections (see graphic at the end of this chapter).

White Wizard is your Conscious Self – who you are and who you are becoming.White Wizard is the Magician, whose powers are activated by wisdom that emanates from the heart. Such wisdom is not the intellectual understanding known in Western culture; it is the wisdom that comes from an alignment of mind and heart. An open, trusting heart is a refined tool of perception. Allowing yourself to ‘not know’ opens the door of the mind to a deeper understanding of the universe. White Wizard asks you to fully utilize this aligned mind to participate in magic.

White Wizard invites you to step into self-empowerment. Empowerment comes from self-acceptance, integrity, and commitment to your evolution. Self-empowerment is not to be found outside oneself. Anything outside that brings you empowerment also has a divine foundation within you. If you feel a need for the approval of others, look to self-empowerment. When you feel effectively engaged, doing what gives you joy, your energy naturally expands to inlcude more of who you are, and magic flows synchronistically into your life. Claim your alignment with the highest wisdom. Call forth divine action in all that you do!Align your own will with divine will and your Essence Self. Be transparent, innocently allowing magic to come through you rather than needing to create it. Open to heart-knowing and limitless possibilties. White Wizard is a tool of the light, a conduit for the work of Spirit. A wise magician is spontaneous and transparent, allowing magic to come in rather than trying to control it or make it happen. A magician dances the dance of love through offering gifts of freedom to others. This is real magic. Freed from the need to use power to manipulate or control, a magician uses wisdom to manifest liberation and love. The harmonic wisdom of White Wizard is melody, the progression of signle tones within a composition. White Wizard symbolizes the sacred journey of your individual life. As a harmonic magician, you are a novel yet universal container for the expression of the Divine. While you play the melody of your journey’s spirit song, the Creator provides the harmony.Melody is to music what story line is to story. Utilize the elements you have chosen for exploration in your life – your gifts, talents, abilities, motivations, circumstances, and the other characters in your play. Orchestrate the most interesting and growth-engendering story line from this combination of possibilities. Understand that you are the player and the played in the melody in your life.

White World-Bridger is your Higher Self & Guide. In this life-time you are being asked to release and surrender. Surrender is the opposite of giving up. It is freeing yourself from the desire to be in control, letting go of how you think things should be. Surrender is freedom. You are being invited to release yourself from the bondage of preconceived action, to let everything be all right as it is, so that you can live a more inspired life in the moment!

You are being asked to take action in the process of surrender and release. You are requested to die a symbolic death, to surrender your limiting beliefs. Symbolic death unveils the self by cutting away the outgrown parts of yourself that no longer serve you. In such death, ego structures fall away to reveal the garden of the true self. Look for new ways of being, new people, new ideas, and new directions that will move into the vacuum created through surrender and release. Like yeast, surrender enlivens and empowers you to experience more of life’s fullness.

Holding on to past patterns and grievances only limits the possibilities. Forgive yourself. Forgive others. Let go. Surrender whatever limits you. Face whatever you are resisting. In the experience of any loss, it is never too late to complete. Through your willingness to walk in the dark forest, insights and revelations will naturally emerge.White World-Bridger teaches you to let go and be. It represents the death of outgrown parts of the small self, which can be used as fodder or fuel for the regeneration into a more expanded self. The energy that is generated from the transfromation of these parts creates a refinement of your spirit. Also, by burning off the dross of the small self, a vacuum is created, drawing new people, ideas, and directions into your life.

In the past, an old behaviour or belief system may have created a way for you to temporarily fel better about yourself by supporting your ego structure. As that ego structure is burned off, you create a pathway for Spirit to fully satisfy the same needs. Through your willingness to walk in the dark forest, the gifts of insight and revelation are provided.

Accept the truth of your present situation. Through accepting what is, you are free to go forward. Change and growth become easier and more natural. Each experience in this enlivened state of surrender allows for more joy.

The colour for White World-Bridger is forest green. You, like the symbol of the evergreen tree, are alive and green amidst the process of apparent death and trans formation of winter. Green creates a feeling of balance and restful calm. It is restorative and healing, grounding, and centering. If you wish to access the power of White World-Bridger, visualize forest green.

Blue Hand is your Subconscious Self and Hidden Helper.Blue Hand is a gateway, an opening, a portal from one understanding to another. A clue to the meaning of Blue Hand is found in the meditation, “I am, by thinly veiled design, the threshold to other dimensions. In my ending is my beginning. The initatory gateway awaits.” Blue Hand is the seventh or last archetype in the cycle of development of primary being. It represents the power found in completion. Blue Hand is seen as a closure, which is really an opening to another level of being.

Like the fluidity of moving water, Blue Hand is associated with the process of dance, mudra, and beauty. This movement is a metaphor for the ebb and flow of life. In meditation with Manik, experience the flowing quality that is the beauty of the cosmic dance. Remember this essence and this fluidity at times when your life feels most inflexible or lacking in beauty.

Blue Hand represents the ‘beauty way’, the ability to see intrinsic beauty within yourself and in all things. Living the beauty way requires being in your full beauty and power. From this place, your self-authority naturally flows. This is the position where your ego is aligned with divine will. When you are standing in your full beauty and power, your very presence invites others to be all that they are. To the Maya, Blue Hand represents the deer, the gentle, serenely aware guide who walks in fluid beauty and grace, opening and revealing.

The energy of Blue Hand will also help you to manifest spiritual skills – especially those intuitive gifts such as oracular divination. In each incarnation, you bring certain gifts. Each path – from priest and priestess to shaman and dancer to artist and gardener – carries varied tools and skills. You have chosen certain gifts and tools that offer you a way to interact with others and your life process. This may be as simple as calling on your innate wisdom and insight in order to see clearly the gifts and tools that you carry.

Yellow Seed represents your Challenge and Gift. With maturity and awareness this challenge will turn into a Focus. This is what you desire to learn in this lifetime. One of the shadows of Yellow Seed is acting as the unawakened seed, the sleeper who wants to remain protected and invulnerable. In this shadow you may think you are serving yourself through this illusion of safety and security. Yet if you maintain distance from the world of possibilities outside your shell, your new horizons are kept at a distance. Take a risk, and reveal all that you are! Beyond the confines of definitions and self-concepts and the security of everyday patterns, the excitement of unknown possibilities beckons.Examine how protective limitations affect your natural growth. Such issues are reflected in phrases like, “My world works just the way it is”; “I can’t do that”; “I’m just fine the way I am”; or “I feel too inadequate.” The sae wall that is intended to create safety and security also builds a barrier that limits Spirit from creating new possibilities in your life. One way to access the transformation offered in the shadow of Yellow Seed is to realize that the seeds – your dreams, desires, and destiny – lie waiting within you to be awakened. In accepting that you are the fertile ground, you feel the authentic safety and security within, and the outside world becomes ripe with new possibilities.

Red Serpent is your Compliment – something that comes naturally to you. “I am the flint and tinder of the sacred fire,” reads the meditation for Red Serpent. In the Great Mystery, flint and tinder represent the instinctive combustion that initiates movement in the physical body toward union with Spirit. When flint and tinder are brought together, the spark of divinity awakens and ignites the fire of your essence. Red Serpent invites the purifying spark of the sacred fire, the kundalini, to align and integrate your body, mind and spirit. Red Serpent can help you uncover apparent blockages in specific chakras to clear an align them. If you are working on a process of purification, invite Red Serpent to assist you.Red Serpent’s symbol is the serpent, representing healing and wholeness. This Mayan medicine can remove toxins, rejuvenate and transform dis-ease. Red Serpent is also known by the Maya as the kultanlilni, or kundalini, the energy that moves up from the base of the spine and out through the crown chakra. There are two aspects of this force, the ida and the pingala, representing its male and female polarities. One of the ancient secrets of Red Serpent is the activation of higher states of consciousness through balancing these two polarities so that they dance within us as one. Another metaphor for this serpent energy comes from the Mayan words luk umen tun ben can, or “those absorbed by the serpent of the sacred knowledge.” When the seven chakras are fully activated, one experiences an enlightened state.

Red Serpent represents the basic structural apparatus of your motivations, instincts, desires, and your innate movement toward wholeness. Red Serpent asks you to shed the skin of your past and step into the fires of alchemical transmutation. In this, rebirth is revealed. This desire is an innate response encoded in the depths of your being.

With the energy of Red Serpent, you learn to use the innate intelligence of the body. In this culture you may have become separated from this wisdom. It works like this: when you suppress and ignore your issues, your body receives and retains the unconscious metaphors of that which is ignored. This may be expressed through physical symptoms that bring your unconscious issues to conscious awareness. When this happens, work toward a more conscious relatonship with your body – and work with the physical metaphors in order to heal yourself on all levels.

The body has a specific kind of consciousness through which messages are clearly delivered. In fact, the body itself is a living metaphor that mirrors your mind, emotions and spirit. However, the body also remembers all it has experienced, and consequently holds the consciousness of the past within it, including past wounds and traumas. In healing these, remember the innocence of your body. Treat it with love and respect. Open yourself to be aware of its messages and metaphors rather than storing them. Be willing to look at the positive intent beneath any symptoms or physical process your body is using to communicate. Explore whatever it may be asking you to see.

In this alignment process, you can use images or energies that come to you in meditation or dreams. Journey through your body to catalyze and explore any sensations, colors, shapes, or images. In these times we have a profound opportunity to transcend both our physical and our spiritual genetics. The body’s integration provides an unparalleled opportunity for personal evolution. Learn to expand and utilize your senses to access your body’s wisdom and vitality. Don’t ‘think’ about it; simply allow your body to sense intuitively the solutions necessary for change and growth.

Red Serpent also represents the connection between powerful physical/ecstatic experiences and the light of higher consciousness. This is an initiation of awakening through the body and senses, rather than in negation of them. As Jose Arguelles says in The Mayan Factor, “Like the Maya, we shall understand that the path to the stars is through the senses.” Within the body are held the keys to fully awakening our consciousness. This deeper understanding is expressed in tantric practices, where spirituality and sexuality are integrated and honoured as a means to enlightenment. Red Serpent represents the integration of mind, body and spirit.

Red Serpent is associated with the sacred tools of the drum and the rattle. Drums and rattles can break down old patterns or bring energy into alignment.

Your Tone is Tone 12 – CrystalStability in expansion, greater constellation, union of polarity, framework of connectedness.

Twelve is the ray of Complex Stability, the foundation of self and the foundation of essence in union with the mystical truth of polarity. All things are interwoven in the dance of yin and yang. All parts make up a greater whole. Draw on the wisdom, strength, and stability you derive as a member of the greater coucil. No matter what your experience, there is a complex stability in the larger pattern that invites you to feel stable as you expand and evolve. Living in a world of polarities, yet knowing that all parts are one in the unified whole, creates the underlying framework of connectedness. The hologram of polarity is simply the structure, the loom upon which worlds and realities are woven.

Stability is a matter of perception. Find where you can openly flow and expand in the midst of seeming complexity. Utilize the relationships created by polarity to explore and expand any self-limiting construct. Open your perceptions. Through you, the mysterious balance of the cosmos is fulfilled.***These excerpts were taken from the amazing book, “The Mayan Oracle – Return Path to the Stars” by Ariel Spilsbury & Michael Bryner – Click here to email Ariel and purchase a signed copy!

What is a Nazarene?
He shall be called a Nazarene. ~Matt 2:23

Nazarene is the title by which Jesus and his followers were referred to. The word ‘Christian’ was never used by Jesus or used to describe those who followed him.

In the New Testament book of Acts, Paul is tried in Caesarea, and Tertullus is reported as saying:

“We have, in fact, found this man a pestilent fellow, an agitator among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes” (Acts 24:5, New Revised Standard Version).

It is clear that “Christian” was not the earliest term for the followers of Jesus, since Acts 11:26 reports its first use in Antioch – at a time and in a place at least 10 and possibly 20 or more years after the death of Jesus.

Many authors have argued that “Nazarene” was not just one term that was used, but the dominant term, and that it was also used to describe Jesus himself. The chief argument for this claim rests on an interpretation of the way Jesus is referred to by the writers of the gospels. The original Greek forms of all four gospels call him, in places, “Iesou Nazarene” (e.g. Matthew 26:71; Mark 1:24, 10:47, 14:67; Luke 4:34; John 17:5; Acts 2:22).

Translations of the Bible, from the fifth century Vulgate on, have generally rendered this into a form equivalent to “Jesus of Nazareth.” However, it is not the only possible translation. Linguistically, “Jesus the Nazarene” would be at least as correct, and some critics have argued that it is more plausible given that city of Nazareth seems to have not existed at the time of Jesus; it is unmentioned in any contemporary history and it is not possible to prove its early existence other than by reference to the gospels.

The Vulgate does use a form equivalent to “Nazarene” in one verse (Matthew 2:23), where its reading is Nazaroeus (Nazoraios), but here the original Greek has the word Nazarene on its own, without Iesou.

However we translate these verses from the gospels, the evidence from Acts 24 does support the claim that “Nazarene” was an early term for the followers of Jesus. But it does not appear to have been the term most used by those followers: the earliest Christian writings we have, the letters of Paul (which predate the gospels by ten to forty years), use the phrase “followers of the way” or, by far the most common, “the church.”

Derivations of “Nazarene”

Regardless of these issues of translation, it seems clear that the term “Nazarenes” had at least some currency as a description of some followers of Jesus. What, therefore, does the word mean? The word Nazarene might come from at least four different sources:

1) The place-name Nazareth, via the Greek form Iesou Nazarene; this is the traditional interpretation within mainstream Christianity. In support of this interpretation is that Iesou Nazarene is applied to Jesus in the Gospels only by those who are outside the circle of his intimate friends, as would be natural if a place-name was meant. However in Acts it is employed by Peter and Paul, and attributed by Paul to the risen Christ (Acts, 22:8). Matthew 2:23 reads that “coming he dwelt in a city said by the prophets: That he shall be called a Nazarene,” though no convincing identification of the prophecy concerned has been brought forward, the phrasing again strongly suggests that Matthew meant Nazarene to refer to a place name.

2) The word netzer meaning “branch” or “off-shoot.” This could in turn refer to the claim that Jesus was a “descendant of David,” or to the view that Jesus (or rather the teachings he or his followers advocated) were an offshoot from Judaism.

3) The word nosri which means “one who keeps (guard over)” or “one who observes”.

4) The word nazir which refers to a man who is consecrated and bound by a vow to God, symbolized by avoiding cutting his hair, eating meat or drinking alcohol. Such a man is usually referred to as a Nazirite in English translations, and there are a number of references to Nazirites in the Old Testament.

None of these interpretations is unproblematic. It is therefore, quite possible that “Nazarene” was simply a deliberate play on words combining Nazirite with Essene.

Nazarenes: Jewish Christians

After the word “Christian” had become established as the standard term for the followers of Jesus, there appear to have been one or more groups calling themselves “Nazarenes”, perhaps because they wished to lay claim to a more authentic and/or a more Jewish way of following Jesus.

Descriptions of groups with this title are given by the fourth century church father Epiphanius (flourished 370 CE), and Jerome. On the basis of their accounts, the Encyclopaedia Britannica of 1911 stated definitely that the name Nazarenes specifically identified an obscure Jewish-Christian sect, existing at the time of Epiphanius.

Epiphanius gives the more detailed, though thoroughly disapproving, description, calling the Nazarenes neither more nor less than Jews pure and simple. He mentions them in his Panarion (xxix. 7) as existing in Syria, Decapolis (Pella) and Basanitis (Cocabe).

According to Epiphanius they dated their settlement in Pella from the time of the flight of the Jewish Christians from Jerusalem, immediately before the siege in 70 CE. He describes them as those “…who accept Messiah in such a way that they do not cease to observe the old Law.” Epiphanius adds, however, that they recognized the new covenant as well as the old, and believed in the resurrection, and in the one God and His Son Jesus Christ.

He cannot say whether their christological views were identical with those of Cerinthus and his followers, or whether they differed at all from his own.

Jerome (Epistle 79, to Augustine), on the other hand, says that though the Nazarenes believed in Christ the Son of God, born of the Virgin Mary, who suffered under Pontius Pilate, and rose again, desiring to be both Jews and Christians, they are neither the one nor the other.

They used the Aramaic Gospel of the Hebrews, also known as the Gospel of the Holy Twelve, but while adhering as far as possible to the Mosaic economy as regarded circumcision, Sabbaths, vegetarian foods and the like, they did refuse to recognize the apostolicity of Paul. (Jerome’s Commentary on Isaiah, ix. I).

Jerome’s description, taken along with the name (cf. Acts 24:5) and geographical position of the sect, strongly suggest that the Nazarenes of the 4th century interacted with the Ebionites in spite of Epiphanius’ distinction.

Earlier church fathers such as Justin Martyr, Origen and Eusebius mention other groups who, to varying extent, accepted Jesus as Messiah while continuing to observe the Jewish Law. It is often suggested that these are the same as the groups identified by Jerome and Epiphanius as Nazarenes. One such group were the Ebionites, referred to in second century writings. There Epiphanius draws a comparative distinction between the Nazarenes and the Ebionites.

18. The soul that carries within itself the least appetite for worldly things bears more unseemliness and impurity in its journey to God than if it were troubled by all the hideous and annoying temptations and darknesses describable; for, so long as it does not consent to these temptations, a soul thus tried can approach God confidently, by doing the will of His Majesty, who proclaims: Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will refresh you [Mt. 11:28]. True health is to be found in having a positive attitude toward life and a strong self that refuses to be defeated by anything. True health shines in the lives of those who continue to ardently devote themselves to creating positive value and the happiness of others. It is painful to suffer illness, but the most painful thing of all is to feel abandoned by everyone, that no one cares about you. When the dark hole of despair pierces your heart, your life force drains away. That is why it is so important not to abandon or forget those who are sick or in trouble. We need to continuously and gently communicate to them that we sincerely want them to get better. While it is absurd to reject medical science, the principal factor in overcoming illness is the patient and his or her “life force.” In medical terms, it is our capacity to heal ourselves. Life force is a mystic phenomenon that transcends human understanding. It is precisely because we battle with sickness that we are able to experience firsthand the best and worst in life, allowing us to forge the strength within ourselves that will never succumb. That time of struggle enables one to empathize with the suffering of the sick. Don’t confuse good health with not being sick. A truly healthy life is one spent creating value—tackling the challenges thrown at us over a lifetime, striving to achieve something worthy and meaningful; constantly expanding the frontiers of our lives. The key to battling illness lies in summoning a vigorous life-force and a positive fighting spirit. This brings out the full effectiveness of a curative treatment.

Is health a state where one’s body is simply free of disease? Good health is mustering a robust attitude to aggressively combat any malicious threats to our well-being. It is in this unyielding resolve to fight, challenge, create and ceaselessly advance that we find the basis of true human health. Sickness and death are unavoidable in life. To experience illness is not itself misfortune, but to be defeated by illness is misfortune. A critical illness gives one a chance to think of one’s death and reflect on one’s life. One can use the suffering of illness to face these deepest issues of life and death. Illness is part of life. From the perspective of Buddhism, the important thing is to summon the courage to fight it with the determination to make a breakthrough. True health is found in a positive and constructive attitude. One should take advantage of the power of medical science to regain one’s health. But it is the inherent power of life within us that will ultimately bring out the benefit of the treatment. Suffering is the fuel of wisdom, and it opens the way to happiness. Illness, for example, can help us gain insight into the meaning of life, develop a deeper appreciation of life’s value and dignity and ultimately enjoy a more fulfilling existence. Human life is indeed wondrous. You may be ill physically, but as long as your spirit is strong, it most certainly will exert a positive influence on your body. There may be no better remedy than hope.
Health is not simply the absence of illness. Real health is the will to overcome every form of adversity and use even the worst of circumstances as a springboard for new growth and development. Simply put, the essence of health is the constant renewal and rejuvenation of life. Confronting illness can be an opportunity to awaken to the profundity of life. A person who has faced a major illness knows how to deeply savor life. Illness is not something to feel ashamed of. It is not a sign of misfortune or defeat. Suffering is the fuel of wisdom, and it opens the way to happiness. Through illness, human beings can gain insight into the meaning of life, understand its value and dignity, and strive to lead more fulfilling lives. Life is tenacious; it is endowed with the impulse to survive and the power to heal. Ultimately, it is we ourselves who cure our illness, and the decision to undertake this battle arises from within.

Press Releases
Back to listJan 26, 2015
TOKYO: Daisaku Ikeda, president of the Soka Gakkai International (SGI) Buddhist association, has today issued his 2015 peace proposal, “A Shared Pledge for a More Humane Future: To Eliminate Misery from the Earth.”

In the proposal, Ikeda welcomes the ambitious scale of the United Nations’ proposed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which call for putting an end to poverty “in all its forms everywhere.” In the 70th year since the UN was created, he calls for a return to its founding spirit, as well as for increased collaboration between the UN and civil society.

In order to lay the foundations for elimination of the human suffering caused by poverty and conflict, he stresses a need for the rehumanization of politics and economics based on a solidarity of ordinary citizens, for empowerment that enables people to overcome suffering and for a broadening of the sphere of our friendships and concern for others as a basis for building peace.

Ikeda makes specific proposals for protection of the rights of displaced persons and others living outside of their country of origin for economic reasons. He suggests including in the SDGs the protection of the dignity and human rights of all such people, and calls for regional cooperation toward the empowerment of displaced persons, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region and the Middle East, building on pioneering initiatives in West Africa.

Regarding the abolition of nuclear weapons, a consistent theme of Ikeda’s proposals, he applauds the fact that in October 2014, a total of 155 countries and territories signed the Joint Statement on the Humanitarian Consequences of Nuclear Weapons. Over 80% of UN member states have now clearly stated that nuclear weapons should be never used under any circumstances.

Ikeda asserts that while the gulf between the nuclear-weapon states and those calling for nuclear abolition appears great, there is common ground in the desire to avoid the horrific outcome of any use of nuclear weapons. He urges heads of government to attend the 2015 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference and calls on them to voice there the pledges of their governments to eliminate the danger posed by nuclear weapons.

Planning is underway for a World Youth Summit for the Abolition of Nuclear Weapons to be held in Hiroshima in September as a joint initiative of SGI and other NGOs. Ikeda hopes a youth declaration pledging to end the nuclear age will be adopted, building momentum in support of a treaty to prohibit nuclear weapons.

In his proposal, Ikeda also calls for increased regional cooperation and youth exchange, specifically urging China, South Korea and Japan to come together to create a regional model for such collaboration.

He stresses the importance of reviving trilateral China-Korea-Japan summits and hopes that leaders of the three countries can mark the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II with a pledge never to go to war again and regional cooperation in support of the SDGs.

At the third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction to be held in Sendai, Japan, in March, Ikeda mentions that SGI will organize a workshop in which representatives of the three countries will discuss possible regional cooperation in disaster prevention, relief activities and post-disaster recovery.

He also hopes to see the establishment of a China-Korea-Japan youth partnership through which young people can cooperate in efforts to realize the SDGs and other trilateral initiatives.

Buddhist philosopher, author and peacebuilder Daisaku Ikeda (1928 – ), president of the Soka Gakkai International (SGI) lay Buddhist organization, has issued a peace proposal offering ways forward in tackling global challenges every year since 1983.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the founding of SGI in Guam on January 26, 1975. SGI now links over 12 million people in 192 countries and territories around the world who practice Nichiren Buddhism and contribute to their communities. SGI’s activities to promote peace, culture and education are part of the longstanding tradition of Buddhist humanism.

OTT TOTAL 231 POINTS, 194 – Former Affairs of the Bodhisattva Medicine King 3

Chapter Twenty-three: Former Affairs of the Bodhisattva Medicine King
Six important points

Point Three, regarding the passage “Such is this Lotus Sutra. It can cause living beings to cast off all distress, all sickness and pain. It can unloose all the bonds of birth and death.”

The Record of the Orally Transmitted Teachings says:

The very heart of the Lotus Sutra is the teaching that earthly desires are enlightenment, and that the sufferings of birth and death are nirvana. Here the two expressions “cast off” and “unloose” would seem to go directly counter to this teaching.

However, we should take the words “cast off” in the sense of “becoming enlightened concerning.” If we look with the eyes of wisdom as they are opened by the “Life Span” chapter of the essential teaching, we will become enlightened to the truth that sickness, pain, and distress are, and have always been, an innate part of life. Such is the wisdom of the Buddha of limitless joy.

The phrase “unloose all the bonds of birth and death” means to unlock us from the error of supposing that we are now encountering birth and death for the first time and to help us to realize that birth and death have always been an innate part of life. Thus we are released from the bonds of supposing that we will attain enlightenment for the first time [as Shakyamuni did in this lifetime in India]. These two expressions “cast off” and “unloose” are in fact expressions of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo.

The Benefits of Responding with Joy

At that time the bodhisattva mahasattva Maitreya said to the Buddha: “World-Honored One, if there are good men or good women who, hearing this Lotus Sutra, respond with joy, what amount of blessings do they acquire?”
Then he spoke in verse, saying:

After the world-honored one has passed into extinction,
if those who hear this sutra
are able to respond with joy,
what amount of blessings will they acquire?

At that time the Buddha said to the bodhisattva mahasattva Maitreya: “Ajita, after the thus come one has entered extinction, suppose there are monks, nuns, laymen, laywomen, or other persons of wisdom, whether old or young, who, hearing this sutra, respond with joy and, leaving the Dharma assembly, go to some other place, perhaps a monks’ quarters, a spot that is deserted and quiet, a city, a community, a settlement, or a village, and there in accordance with what they have heard they put forth effort in preaching and expounding for the sake of their parents and relatives, their good friends and acquaintances. These people, after hearing, respond with joy and they too set about spreading the teachings. One person, having heard, responds with joy and spreads the teachings, and the teachings in p.287this way continue to be handed along from one to another until they reach a fiftieth person.
“Ajita, the benefits received by this fiftieth good man or good woman who responds with joy I will now describe to you—you must listen carefully. Imagine all the beings in the six paths of existence of four hundred ten thousand million asamkhya worlds, all the four kinds of living beings, those born from the egg, those born from the womb, those born from dampness, and those born by transformation, those with form, those without form, those with thought, those without thought, those who are not with thought, those who are not without thought, those without legs, those with two legs, four legs, or many legs. And imagine that, among all this vast number of living beings, a person should come who is seeking blessings and, responding to their various desires, dispenses objects of amusement and playthings to all these living beings. Each one of these living beings is given gold, silver, lapis lazuli, seashell, agate, coral, amber, and other wonderful and precious gems, as well as elephants, horses, carriages, and palaces and towers made of the seven treasures, enough to fill a whole Jambudvipa. This great dispenser of charity, having handed out gifts in this manner for a full eighty years, then thinks to himself: I have already doled out objects of amusement and playthings to these living beings, responding to their various desires. But these living beings are now all old and decrepit, their years over eighty, their hair white, their faces wrinkled, and before long they will die. Now I should employ the Law of the Buddha to instruct and guide them.
“Immediately he gathers all the living beings together and propagates the Law among them, teaching, benefiting, and delighting them. In one moment all are able to attain the way of the stream-winner, the way of the once-returner, the way of the non-returner, and the way of the arhat, to exhaust all outflows and enter deeply into meditation. All attain freedom and become endowed with the eight emancipations. Now what is your opinion? Are the benefits gained by this great dispenser of charity many or not?”
Maitreya said to the Buddha: “World-Honored One, this p.288man’s benefits are very many indeed, immeasurable and boundless. Even if this dispenser of charity had merely given all those playthings to living beings, his benefits would still be immeasurable. And how much more so when he has enabled them to attain the fruits of arhatship!”
The Buddha said to Maitreya: “I will now state the matter clearly for you. This man gave all these objects of amusement to the living beings in the six paths of existence of four hundred ten thousand million asamkhya worlds and also made it possible for them to attain the fruits of arhatship. But the benefits that he gains do not match the benefits of the fiftieth person who hears just one verse of the Lotus Sutra and responds with joy. They are not equal to one hundredth, one thousandth, one part in a hundred, thousand, ten thousand, a million. Indeed it is beyond the power of calculation, simile, or parable to express the comparison.
“Ajita, the benefits gained by even the fiftieth person who hears the Lotus Sutra as it is handed along to him and responds with joy are immeasurable, boundless asamkhyas in number. How much greater then are those of the very first person in the assembly who, on hearing the sutra, responds with joy! His blessings are greater by an immeasurable, boundless asamkhya number, and are in fact incomparable.
“Moreover, Ajita, suppose a person for the sake of this sutra visits a monks’ quarters and, sitting or standing, even for a moment listens to it and accepts it. As a result of the benefits so obtained, when he is reborn in his next existence he will enjoy the finest, most superior and wonderful elephants, horses, and carriages, and palanquins decked with rare treasures, and will mount up to the heavenly palaces. Or suppose there is a person who is sitting in the place where the Law is expounded, and when another person appears, the first person urges him to sit down and listen, or offers to share his seat and so persuades him to sit down. The benefits gained by this person will be such that when he is reborn he will be in a place where the lord Shakra is seated, where the heavenly king Brahma is seated, or where a wheel-turning sage king is seated.
p.289“Ajita, suppose there is a person who speaks to another person, saying, ‘There is a sutra called the Lotus. Let us go together and listen to it.’ And suppose, having been urged, the other person goes and even for an instant listens to the sutra. The benefits of the first person will be such that when he is reborn he will be born in the same place as dharani bodhisattvas. He will have keen faculties and wisdom. For a hundred, a thousand, ten thousand ages he will never be struck dumb. His mouth will not emit a foul odor. His tongue will never be afflicted, nor will his mouth be afflicted. His teeth will not be stained or black, nor will they be yellow or widely spaced, nor will they be missing or fall out or be at an angle or crooked. His lips will not droop down or curl back or be rough or chapped or afflicted with sores or misshapen or twisted or too thick or too big or black or discolored or unsightly in any way. His nose will not be too broad or flat or crooked or too highly arched. His face will not be swarthy, nor will it be long and narrow, or sunken and distorted. He will not have a single unsightly feature. His lips, tongue, and teeth will all be handsomely proportioned. His nose will be long and high, his face round and full, his eyebrows long and set high, his forehead broad, smooth, and well shaped, and he will be endowed with all the features proper to a human being. In each existence he is born into, he will see the Buddha, hear his Law, and have faith in his teachings.
“Ajita, just observe! The benefits gained merely by encouraging one person to go and listen to the Law are such as this! How much more, then, if one single-mindedly hears, preaches, reads, and recites the sutra and before the great assembly makes distinctions for the sake of people and practices it as the sutra instructs!”
At that time the world-honored one, wishing to state his meaning once more, spoke in verse form, saying:

If someone in the Dharma assembly
is able to hear this sutra,
even just one verse,
and responding with joy, preaches it to others,
p.290and in this way the teachings are handed along
till they reach the fiftieth person,
the blessings gained by this last person
are such as I will now define.
Suppose there is a great dispenser of charity
who bestows goods on immeasurable multitudes,
doing this for a full eighty years,
responding to each person’s desires.
Seeing the signs of decrepitude and old age,
the white hair and wrinkled faces,
the missing teeth, the withered forms,
he thinks, “Their death is not far off;
I must now teach them
so they can gain the fruits of the way!”
Immediately for their sake he employs an expedient means,
preaching the true doctrine of nirvana:
“Nothing in this world is lasting or firm
but all are like bubbles, foam, heat shimmer.
Therefore all of you must quickly
learn to hate it and be gone!”
When the people hear this doctrine,
all are able to become arhats
endowed with the six transcendental powers,
the three insights, and eight emancipations.
But the fiftieth person
who hears one verse [of the Lotus Sutra] and responds with joy
gains blessings that are far greater,
beyond description by simile or parable.
And if one who has had the teachings passed along to him
receives blessings that are immeasurable,
how much more so one who in the Dharma assembly
first hears the sutra and responds with joy.
Suppose someone encourages another person,
urging him to go and listen to the Lotus,
saying, “This sutra is profound and wonderful,
p.291hard to encounter in a thousand, ten thousand kalpas!”
And suppose, as urged, the person goes to listen,
even though he listens for just a moment.
The blessings that the first person gets in reward
I will now describe in detail:
Age after age, no afflictions of the mouth,
no teeth missing, yellow or blackened,
lips that are not thick, curled, or defective,
no hateful features,
a tongue not dry, black, or too short;
nose high, long, and straight,
forehead broad, smooth, and well shaped,
face and eyes all properly aligned and impressive,
the kind people delight to look at,
breath free of foul odor,
a fragrance of blue lotus flowers
constantly emitted by the mouth.
Suppose one goes to the monks’ quarters
expressly to listen to the Lotus Sutra
and listens with joy for just a moment—
I will now describe one’s blessings.
In existences to come among heavenly and human beings
one will acquire wonderful elephants, horses, carriages,
palanquins adorned with rare jewels,
and will mount to the palaces of heaven.
If in the place where the Law is expounded
one encourages someone to sit and hear the sutra,
the blessings one acquires will enable one
to gain the seat of Shakra, Brahma, and the wheel-turner.
How much more so if one listens single-mindedly,
explains and expounds the meaning,
and practices the sutra as the sutra instructs—
one’s blessings will know no bounds!

The adjustment of the lower will to the Divine Will is a manifest act of evolutionary consciousness. To project a new archetype at first requires a combination of will, contemplation and visualization. Intensity of purpose is responsible for lifting you from the world of mediocrity into the pulsing world of higher consciousness.
Learning to project a new archetype or to construct a cosmic personality is a living process, growing out of conscious daily exertion and experience. It is dependent on the expression of the divine aspects in the life upon the physical plane.
